The Heritage shard first went online on January 15th, 2016, and has remained online ever since. Over the last seven years many people have called this shard home, and a few have remained with us through it all.
When I first started this project, I was just beginning to wind down a career in the military and had more time on my hands. During those early years we had a lot of growth and added a ton of content from production. Now I am in school full time perusing a master's in software engineering and it takes up a majority of my time. In school I have learnt and am continuing to learn all about programming, best practices, and emerging technologies. I went from barely being able to code in C# to understanding multiple languages with a new ability to make meaningful connections between them, the hardware they run on, and where it all may be headed in the future. There is still much that eludes me, but that gap closes every day.
Why does any of this matter to Heritage?
While I may not be as active as I have been in the past my commitment to keeping Heritage online and as bug free as possible remains as strong today as it was back then. While other shards have come and gone Heritage remains and will continue to be maintained and updated. Skills learned in school have been and will continue to be utilized in maintaining and updating Heritage. When the dust settles, and time is once again available, I have much planned for this shard. Custom expansions, a total reworking and re-balancing, a Heritage 2.0, the possibilities are endless. I will also be looking to recruit a few new programmers to help with future content additions. My main point is: I am still here, and Heritage will continue to be maintained. While other shards have simply gone dark and abruptly closed, that will not be what happens to Heritage.
