What can we do?

Being honest and direct... What do we need to do to restore the server's shine? Back changes made? Back to be the OSI like? Dan, what can we do? Note that at this moment there are “0” players online.

The goal is to bring discussions that bring a vision to improve, revive the server.

I am curious as well and I believe we need to go back a ways. Here are the things that I believe hurt the shard.
  1. Removing the names of who was on.
  2. Revert the changes to tracking.
  3. Revert Eoden to what it was.
  4. Revert The Lost Lands back to what it was.
These changes seem to be where the numbers started to drop. Eodon had a ton of unused space and can have some of the stuff that was newly added to The Lost Lands. I don't know if this would be too little too late or not but I think these changes started the decline in players., especially the tracking. If people don't voice their opinion, then change cannot happen.

Hi, @Xeno . I agree with you and that's exactly why I proposed this topic to discuss, because regardless of which side I'm on, I think we want the same thing, the return of heritage.

I agree with you in your suggestions and I think this is the thinking of the vast majority, especially tracking.

As for the list of players, I don't think it's that determining (just to be clear I voted to take it off), but we can think differently. An example is why not have a public place in luna where you can bring this information? An example is the guild stone...it could have some button to open the player list. I think this is good for both sides of the story.

I think this topic could be the beginning of a direction, because I like it here a lot and I'm happy to recommend players here, but at some point we lost the hand and some new players didn't stay for 1 month.

I just know that it seemed about that time that we went from 45-60 people down to 30-45 so that's why I suggested it. Showing who is on or just the number doesn't really affect me one way or another though I liked seeing if my friends were on.

Adding the players list back in is a possible. I would like to code in a small delay between uses so it can't be spammed as much.

For tracking, I'd like to find a way to make it so tracking players is limited to being close by but I'd like to keep the changes we introduced for tracking monsters over long distances. Otherwise a total revert is possible.

Hello Dan. Sorry for opening the topic, but with the intention of helping.

About the list of players, is there a way to put an item in the moon bank that is our main city and with that, clicking on it, it opens the list of players? Something in the same way, to know in detail how many houses are about to fall... I think this would combine the useful with the pleasant, because if you want to see your friends, just go to the bank and click. If I'm not mistaken there is a bell that directs to discord, also as an example. Having that kind of tool there would be a meeting place. This also goes against the abuse of the tool by certain players as well.

About tracking, I think the objective is cool, but for several reasons it is limited by the game itself... if you give tracking close to somewhere that has several animals on t2a, you will be limited to a small number. In the end I think that the tools in development (our kind of server wiki) will be able to inform the location without the need of tracking. Or maybe configure so that only the monster part uses the current system and the players part remains as before.

About the return of Edon, following OSI-Like, do you have this possibility?

I stopped playing mostly because I was bored.. I play a Merchant 1st and foremost, if i have no customers, then I have no fun.. Im also tired of time being spent on improving PvP and trying to get more people involved.. when its obviously not working.. I have GMd on 10-12 servers in my day.. I have tried and tried and tried to make PvP more interesting.. I have seen server owners do everything they can thing of to entice people to PvP.. but some people just dont care about PvP, reguardless of the rewards... PvP is dead in UO, its time to admit that, and move on... yea yea.. theres you die hards.. but there is more people interested in PVM than PVP so focus should be on PVM, and little to no time spent on PvP.. when you are the only person running a server, and you spend time working on an aspect of the game that only a small percentage of people even bother with.. that doesnt sit well with me.. that takes up valueable time that could have been spent on a part of the game that the majority of the people are interested in.. This game needs new lands, new content, new mobs.. NEW EXPANISONS!! even the official UO is going into what sounds like mainteance mode.. meaning NO NEW CONTENT!! this is where private server can shine! right now is the time to release NEW CONTENT!! those that do.. will be bringing in the numbers.. and getting my $$

oh yea.. and imbuing has ruined the game.. it needs to be removed.

I stop playing bcs i reach point where nothing else left to do+ get tired of @BinhoGuedes and his friends who basicly turn people out of spawns-but i think thats it- 3-4 people spend their whole time in game just running and stealth around every single spawn spots and then just ruin someone work in few seconds bcs modern uo pvp - is all about better scripts and obviously always 3vs1.

But tbh thats not pvp anymore its just being asshole + low on life goals - > i tried few times and go spawns with people who just started playing heritage-know how it end? Usually being ganked at first lvl of spawn JUST BCS.
Guess what players who cant improve their characters done after trying week/two weeks-they stop playing bcs everytime when they try doing single thing in felucia there was ALWAYS 2+ pk instant killing them. I dont blame pk players but you guys got what you basicly deserved.

GL - Maybe one day log back just for some bank sitting

I think Eodon could be utilized as an arena for events and special content. Lock the space out to all players and only reopen it for events. If you want pvp the space could be used for tournaments or pvp guild wars, but not for day to day use. If we were to use it for events make sure that all pvp is consensual.​
Years ago when I played the OSI shards I had a char on Seige, maybe make Eodon into a Seige rule set? (Just a thought)​
C. Bring back the double resources for Felucca but leave pvp unchanged for this facet. This also means non-consensual pvp. Risk vs reward.​
D. Remove imbuing.​
E. Revert the lost lands to it's original content with spawns.​
F. Spawn rewards. Allow the spawns in the lost lands to generate scrolls in the loot packs. Maybe even add scrolls to the loot packs in Doom. Let's face it, the only reason people go to the spawns in Felucca is for the scrolls. Remove ganking as a tactic, its not fun for the victim.​

I agree with this, whole heartedly. I have nothing against PvP and love PvP in other games but in UO it seems that PvPers only want easy targets. Prodo is a perfect example, they are spread out and complain there is no PvP yet they do not all move to one shard and play against each other. Atlantic PvP os mostly just chat PvP. On Heritage, there was very little PvP (known by reading discord and chat) unless the sides were very lopsided. The ones that truly want PvP will go to PvP only servers, the ones that come here and other small shards mainly want targets. I would think catering to PvM would be the way to go and the way to build. Once there is a healthy population, put special things into Fel to entice people to go there (not game breaking or things to make PvP uber rich) and when there are people in Fel, the PvP will return as well.

@FireFly , you know that with you the story is very different and you also know the reasons we love to kill you...you gave reasons. I just wish that at least when reporting something, tell the truth or not tell part of them...I'm not going to tell anyone that you have the habit of delivering Spawn from friends to enemies...let's not mix up the subjects.

About the new ones, if you want to know BRK has already had the opportunity to take several Spawns from new players, but many times we didn't do it to give an opportunity... as well as we've invaded several Spawns too.
We've already helped a lot of people too. Whoever is with us will certainly be helped. Right here on the forum I saw some names from this post.
To finish this...I think it's very funny not to report that you and the doobs do the same...or you do it worse, whoever says the old zeal people, that you used to champ and kill with other characters and then say that you didn't know who it was that had killed.

@Cid , Your notes are nice, but Eodon, it's part of the game...as strange as it sounds to you, there's a lot of cool stuff there...look for something about zipctrol...(I don't remember if that's the name).

I agree on the point of double appeal in felluca, because not really having that there is no point in going to fell.
About adding scroll in doom, I don't know if it would be cool...after all, the objective is to go to Spawn or move the trade. I think here, we would even be changing the game.

A suggestion perhaps, as it happens on some servers and free up 30 me of day time, for a kind of serverwar, where the pvp is released in every city and in the banks a stick with artifacts and powerful weapons is released... I played in a server that had it. After the time had passed, the server would return on the last save. This was an opportunity to understand pvp.

Oh, and weird random changes.. w/o some kind of road map for the players to see.. put me into "Im gonna sit back and watch where this goes" mode.. not interested in working on some task in game, just for it to disappear.. like the classic quests.. why the hell would you even take those out, so what if people haven't done them.. i know for a fact I have done them a few times.. a few of them give unique pieces of deco that are now, no longer obtainable.. :( especially when you remove a whole facet w/o any kind of real explination as to what is going on.. removing content from a game makes no sense.. you are removing features.. and features are important..

Well find me ONE PLAYER not in your guild who got raided and killed by me personally on spawn. Only ONE. Then we can eventually talk. Lol silly

Course you weren't alone. But BRK are actually the only guild to have ever helped me complete a champ.

Anyway, the tracking detection distance could be heavily reduced against players, i think at GM its about 600 tiles. I'd like to propose we keep the quarry distance though and the elf detection distance and necro/animal form tracking types, as that has always been the case in OSI.
I always thought that a larger scale tracking would help pvp for 1v1, no one seems to even bother doing actual pvp, its all just ganking..

My point exactly, if Ganking is not removed as a tactic at spawns nothing will change. This is why I suggested adding scrolls to other spawns away from the few in Felucca. To my knowledge the spawn points have not changed location ever. Since the spawns don't move, people who gank have had years to learn the lay of the land and write the scripts accordingly. It's the same basic tactic over and over and over...

If adding scrolls to other spawn loot packs is not appealing perhaps rotate the scrolls from spawn to spawn, 1 month in Felucca, 1 month in the lost lands, 1 month in Tokuno...etc.

The time is now to remove the economic power of controlling spawns and scrolls. I can only see the population of the server decreasing further if nothing is changed.

Just chiming in as a new player. Love how well it runs and that I can use the Enhanced Client. Hearing about bad ganking though later on is making me weary. Not that it isn't a problem on almost every server

One thing I suggested to Dan was a truly random based quest/spawn system. Having a daily/roaming champ spawn, you never know the location or facet etc. That could tie into the tracking system, which i had more plans for for finding treasure/stealables and all sorts of things.
I know we have our monthly event system, id just like something that brings players out to actually do something. But we'd need to make it worthwhile for the loot, maybe arties with limited existence. I think daoc used to have that for realm arties.
Basically UO as it exists officially doesn't cater for what we seem to want from it anymore.
